Description and Typical Properties of Zirconium
Zr702 and Zr705

(All these informations are given up to our knowledge but can in no
way be understood as assured properties nor can we guarantee that
the informations may not contain errors!)

Zirconium alloys are composed of 95,5 to 99,2 % zirconium and hafnium with a maximum hafnium content of 4,5 %. Zr-alloys are named as follows:
Zirconium Zr702 is commercially pure zirconium.
Zirconium Zr705 is zirconium alloyed with niobium to increase its formability and strength.
The presence of hafnium in Zr-alloys does not influence the physical, mechanical or corrosion properties in any significant way.

Zirconium as a reactive metal has a high affinity for oxygen that results in building up a protective oxide layer in air at room temperature. This protective oxide gives Zr alloys their superior corrosion resistance.
The oxide layer can even be enhanced through special heat treating process.
